Are we ready to unlearn?
Okay, hear me out. I’ve been thinking about how marketing has done a complete 180. Remember when going viral was the dream? Like, one post blows up, and suddenly you’re an internet legend. it feels like that hype doesn’t stick the way it used to.
Here’s what’s been on my mind.
Unlearning the Virality Obsession
For the longest time, I thought, “If it’s not viral, did it even happen?” But now? That mindset feels dusty. Platforms are crowded, algorithms have their own mood swings, and people scroll faster than I can finish my coffee.
Unlearning this whole “viral or bust” thing has been refreshing. It’s not about chasing that one big post anymore. It’s about making stuff people actually vibe with, even if it doesn’t break the internet.
Relearning What Influence Even Means
Here’s the plot twist: influence isn’t about the numbers anymore. It’s about who sticks around when the hype dies down. Niche communities? Gold. Random DMs like “Hey, this really hit me”? Priceless.
I’m relearning that real connection > fleeting attention. Influence isn’t loud these days. It’s chill, meaningful, and sometimes just a quiet corner of the internet where people actually care.
Big Numbers? Cute. Real Engagement? Chef’s Kiss.
Sure, having 100K followers sounds fancy, but if only 10 people engage, what’s the point? It’s like throwing a party where everyone shows up for the snacks but ignores the host. I’d rather have 1,000 people who genuinely care than 100K ghost followers.
Honestly, ditching the “numbers game” feels like a breath of fresh air. Engagement hits different when it’s real.
What do you think? Have you had to unlearn anything in your marketing journey?
